Jesus is telling the crowd what it is all about, summing things up with v.30 "I and the father are one." There's a little more talking and then they try to seize him and he escapes again.
Then, v. 41. They said, "Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true." And in that place many believed in Jesus.
Our role as forerunners is important. Had John not been one to prepare Jesus' way, these people might not have believed. So it wasn't only the miracles that gave Jesus credibility, it was the forerunner. Partnership!
